## Overview

UGScan is a Lidar-based 3D scanning app that supports three scanning modes: point cloud, model, and floor plan. It can quickly help you collect 3D data, and allows you to process scans, view results, measure distances, and use AR view directly on your phone. It can also export common 3D formats for sharing with friends.

# Scanning attention

Scanning requires a certain level of expertise.

## Move Slowly

Maintain slow and steady movements to reduce blurry images, which is helpful for scan quality.

## Large Objects

A larger scope, such as a room, a sofa, or a large sculpture, will produce better results.

## Tiny and Details

Extremely small objects may not perform well in terms of detail, as this is limited by the precision of Lidar.

## Scan Route

Try to scan each area only once to avoid scanning the same area again after a long time.


# First scan

### Step 1: Click the scan button to enter the scanning page.

# Scanning

Tip: Different scanning types will produce different types of data, and the data formats for point clouds and models will also be different. Models are textured triangular meshes, while point clouds are simply 3D points.

**Points:** The scan is recorded in point cloud format without generating triangle meshes. It can be exported in formats such as Obj, Ply, Bin, XYZ, etc.&#x20;

**Room:** Room scanning is done using RoomPlan, and can export in USDZ format.&#x20;

**Model:** Model scanning generates a real-time triangle mesh. During the scan, the surface flatness is indicated by the color of the surface normals. It is recommended to scan the object as completely as possible according to the prompt.

The scanning range is 0.4m to 5.0m, with a default distance of 3m. You can modify the maximum scanning distance according to your needs.

Scan resolution refers to voxel size, which is the size of the smallest grid in space. The resolution range is from 5mm to 30mm. A smaller resolution means a finer level of detail, but it also requires more memory. A larger resolution means coarser details, but it is suitable for scanning large areas of data.

Tip: If the resolution is set too small, such as 5mm, and the scanning distance is set very far, such as 5m, it will occupy a very large memory and may not be able to scan a large range, or even cause the App to crash.

# 3D View

3D Interaction

## Quick Menu

The quick menu in the upper right corner of the 3D view, denoted by "...", mainly includes three functions:

* **Sync to UGStudio:** This function syncs the current scan to the Mac version of the UGStudio app. You need to install UGStudio on your Mac and keep it open to enable syncing.
* **Update thumbnail:** This function re-renders the current view to update the thumbnail of the current project on the Home page.
* **Delete:** This function deletes the current scan project.

# Process

## **Extend Scan:**

Expanding scan is to further scan the scene based on the current scan. After entering, the current scan is first loaded, and then after repositioning to the scene, you can start scanning. The process of expanding scan is the same as the initial scan. After the scan is completed, it will enter the 3D view, and the texture needs to be regenerated after expanding scan.

## **Generate Mesh:**&#x20;

Mesh generation is based on the same scanning data to regenerate the mesh based on the same parameter settings as the scanning and mesh settings in the scanning and settings pages. For detailed instructions, please refer to the instructions on the scanning and settings pages.

Model generation is a very useful feature that allows you to regenerate the mesh with adjusted parameters based on the same scan data.

## Generate Texture

There are three optional levels for generating texture, which are 20%, 50%, and 100% of the image size. 20% is a free feature, and most of the time, 50% is sufficient. The larger the image resolution, the more texture there will be.

After selecting the image ratio, the progress of the generation will be prompted. Because generating texture requires a lot of computation, it takes some time and patience to wait.

# Measure

Tip: that the measurement accuracy depends on the scanning quality and range. The larger the range, the greater the cumulative error. If the scanning trajectory is not good, it may also increase the error.

**Measuring points:** During the measurement process, the 3D view interaction remains unchanged. To create a measurement point, simply locate the place to be measured and then press and hold with one finger. Multiple measurement points can be created continuously, and the measured length is the sum of the lengths of all measurement points.&#x20;

**Undo:** Click "Undo" to delete the most recently created measurement point.&#x20;

**Close:** Close the measuring function.


# Share

The sharing function supports exporting data in multiple formats:

# Settings

The default parameters for UGScan are all listed here.

## Your subscription

**Upgrading to Pro version:** You can upgrade to the Pro version by purchasing a monthly or yearly subscription to unlock all features. Subscribed users will be prompted with the type and duration of their subscription, as well as the next billing date.

**Managing subscription:** You can modify your subscription type or cancel your subscription. If you cancel, the existing Pro features will be available until the next billing date. After the billing date, the Pro features will no longer be available.

**Restoring subscription:** If you reinstall the app or switch to a new phone, you can restore your previous subscription by using the "Restore Subscription" feature.

## Lidar

**Enable smoothing filter:** When enabled, the Lidar data will be processed with a smoothing filter, resulting in a smoother appearance.

\
**Enable edge filtering:** When enabled, the noisy data on the edges of objects will be filtered out, which can improve the scan quality. However, there may be more holes in the scan data, so it's recommended to cover more angles during scanning.

## Mesh

**Mesh simplification level:** This setting determines the level of mesh simplification to be applied after the scan is completed. The lower the percentage, the fewer the number of triangles in the mesh, while the higher the percentage, the greater the number of triangles. Currently, there are four levels: 20%, 40%, 60%, and 100%. Setting it to 100% means no simplification will be applied, but the resulting mesh may contain a large number of triangles, so use it with caution for large models.

\
**Mesh simplification accuracy:** This setting controls the level of precision to be maintained during the simplification process. If a higher precision is set, the number of triangles may increase in order to maintain accuracy. Conversely, if a lower precision is set (e.g. 20mm), the number of triangles can be greatly reduced, but the precision of details may be compromised. This depends on the type of object being scanned.

## Texture

**Auto Hole Filling:** When turned on, it will automatically fill some poorly covered holes, but this does not mean that there are no holes left.

**Keep Un-textured Triangles:** When turned on, it will keep the un-textured triangles that have no texture coverage, but these triangles are untextured and if turned off, the final triangle mesh may have missing faces.

**Texture Seam Optimization:** When turned on, it will optimize texture seams, but it will increase the calculation time for texture generation.

# 扫描技巧

扫描具有一定专业性

## 移动平稳

保持缓慢和稳定的运动, 以减少模糊的图像, 这对扫描质量很有帮助.

## 大物体

大一点的范围, 比如房间, 一个沙发, 一个大的雕塑，效果会更好.

## 小物体与细节

特别小的物体在细节上表现不会太好, 这受限于Lidar的精度.

## 扫描轨迹

尽量保持同一区域只扫一遍, 避免扫很久后又回来扫同一区域.

# 扫描

提&#x793A;**:** 不同的扫描类型会产生不同的数据种类, 点云和模型的数据格式也会不同, 模型是带有纹理的三角网格, 而点云就只有单纯的3D点.

**点云:** 以点云的方式记录3D数据, 不会生成三角网格, 可以导出Obj, Ply, Bin, XYZ等格式.

**户型:** 户型是RoomPlan扫描, 可将户型扫描后到处USDZ格式, 适合生成室内户型图数据.

**模型:** 模型扫描会实时生成三角网格, 扫描过程中可以实时看到网格法向颜色, 法向颜色代表扫描表面平整程度, 可根据提示尽量把目标扫描完整了, 模型扫描结果可以导出带纹理的Obj, glTF格式.\
\ <img src="/files/WjQt04Ebuve9fPMuPaic" alt="" data-size="line">     **距离设置:** 扫描距离范围是0.4m->5.0m, 默认是3m, 您可以根据自己需要来修改最远扫描距离.\ <img src="/files/PBOULKqKb1uHc5Di3kco" alt="" data-size="line"> **扫描分辨率:** 扫描分辨率是指体素大小, 是指空间里最小的格子大小. 分辨率范围是5mm->30mm, 越小代表越精细, 但内存占用也比较高, 越大的细节越粗但适合扫描大范围数据.&#x20;

提示: 如果设置的分辨率很小, 如5mm, 然后扫描距离设置的很远, 如5m, 将会占用非常大内存, 可能扫描不了多大范围就会终止扫描, 甚至会导致App崩溃.

## 快捷菜单

3D视图中的快捷菜单在右上角的"...", 主要包括三个功能:\
**同步给UGStudio:** 该功能是将当前扫描同步给Mac版App UGStudio, 您需要安装Mac的UGStudio并保持打开状态才可以同步.\
**更新缩略图:** 重新渲染当前视图更新当前项目在Home页的缩略图.\
**删除:** 删除当前扫描项目.

## **扩展扫描:**&#x20;

扩展扫描是在当前扫描基础上, 对场景进一步补充扫描. 进入后首先加载当前扫描, 然后重新定位到场景中后, 就可以开始扫描了. 扩展扫描过程中与初次扫描一样, 结束扫描后会进入3D视图, 扩展扫描后需要重新生成纹理.&#x20;

## **生成模型:**&#x20;

生成模型是基于同样扫描数据进行三角网格重新生成, 生成前的参数设置与扫描页面设置以及设置页面中网格设置一样. 详细说明见扫描页面及设置页面中的说明.\
生成模型在非常实用的功能, 可以在同一次扫描基础上, 调整参数重新生成三角网格.

## 生成纹理

生成纹理有三个可选级别, 分别是20%, 50%和100%图像大小, 20%是免费功能, 大多数50%的效果就够用, 越大的图像分辨率意味着纹理数量越多. \
选择完图像比例后会提示生成进度, 因为纹理生成计算量比较大, 需要耐心等待.

# 测量

提&#x793A;**:** 测量精度取决于扫描质量和范围, 范围越大累计误差也大, 扫描轨迹不好也可能会增加误差.

**测量选点:** 测量过程中, 3D视图交互不变, 要创建测量点只需要找到要测量的地方, 然后单指长按就可以, 可以连续创建测量点, 测量长度是所有测量点加起来的长度.

**撤销:** 点击撤销可将最近一次创建的测量点删除.

**关闭:** 关闭测量功能.

## 你的订阅

**升级专业版:** 可以通过购买月或年订阅升级到专业版来解锁所有功能, 购买订阅的用户会提示订阅的类型有有效时间, 以及下次付款账单日.

**管理订阅:** 可以修改订阅类型和取消订阅, 取消后现有专业版功能可用到下次账单日, 过了账单日专业版功能将无法使用.

**恢复订阅:** 当您重新安装App或者更换手机后, 可以用恢复订阅来恢复已经购订阅.

## 雷达

**开启平滑过滤:** 开启后会对雷达数据进行平滑处理, 细节上会更平整.

**开启边缘过滤:** 开启后会过滤物体边缘的噪声数据, 扫描质量会提高, 但空洞会多些, 需要扫描的时候多覆盖些角度.

## 模型

**网格简化程度:** 该设置是要扫描完成后, 对三角网格进行简化的程度, 百分比越低表示网格三角形数量越少, 百分比越高表示三角形数量越多. 现有20%, 40%, 60%和100%四个级别, 100%相当于不简化, 但三角形数量比较多, 大模型慎用.

\
**网格简化精度:** 该设置是控制在简化过程中要保持的精度, 如果设置的精度越高, 为了保持精度有可能简化后的三角形数量增多, 同理如果设置的精度低(如20mm),  简化后三角形数量可大幅降低, 但在细节上精度会比较差, 这取决于您扫描的目标种类而定.

## 纹理

**自动补洞:** 开启后会自动把一些覆盖不好的洞给补上, 但这不代表就没有洞了

**保留无纹理的三角面:** 开启后会保留那些没纹理覆盖的三角面, 但这些三角面是没有纹理的素模, 如果关上后, 最后三角网格可能会增加缺面情况.

**纹理接边优化:** 开启后会优化纹理接缝, 但会给纹理生成增加计算时间.
